You are only as good as
the people who work for you. So one of your critical responsibilities
is to attract and retain the people who deliver the IT
services
for your business. And it isn't just about money.
Everyone has bills to pay, of
course. If you pay too little, people won't join.
And if all you
do is pay above market, then people won't stay with you
for too long either. Get the salary about right, and numerous
surveys list the next most important factors as job satisfaction,
achievement, personal development and recognition.
We have worked with IT organisations to implement
skills frameworks, such as SFIA,
which provide a reference model for the skills (and the
level of proficiency) they need to develop and operate
their information systems. We have then used it
to map out career development paths for their staff, resource
projects appropriately
and make their recruitment more effective.
In addition to these hard skills,
we've helped client staff develop their
interpersonal skills through workshops, role play and one-to-one
coaching. We support these activities with a series of
personal development guides.
